SET (DV) application package

SET(DV) is the application for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) for individuals who were last granted leave in the UK as a partner or spouse and whose relationship has permanently broken down because of domestic violence or abuse. It allows eligible applicants to obtain settlement without needing to complete the usual five-year route, provided they can show that they held valid partner leave, that the relationship has ended, and that the breakdown was directly caused by abuse. There is no financial requirement and no English-language requirement under this route.

The application is highly evidence dependent. The UK Home Office must be satisfied, on the balance of probabilities, that abuse occurred and that it caused the permanent breakdown of the relationship. Applicants should therefore provide as much independent corroborative evidence as possible (for example police, medical, court, social services or domestic abuse support letters), alongside a clear and detailed personal statement. Weak, inconsistent, or missing evidence is a common reason for refusal, making careful preparation and organisation of supporting documents essential.
