What your fixed fee does and doesn't cover
The advertised fixed fee is per person and covers the standard legal work specifically described in this package. It does not include third-party costs, translations, interpreters, expert reports, counsel/advocate/barrister fees or substantial additional work outside the agreed scope unless expressly stated.
Additional work arising after submission, including correspondence or complaints concerning Home Office delays, is not automatically included in the fixed fee. We may undertake such work without additional charge at our discretion, but where substantial additional work is required a separate fee may apply.
This fixed fee is for standard applications. If you've had a previous refusal, entered the UK illegally, claimed asylum, had any immigration law breaches, prior convictions or any other adverse immigration history, please book a consultation first. These cases may need additional work and a separate quotation, and we'll recommend the right route.

FLR (HRO) Application Support from a UK Immigration Lawyer
Further Leave to Remain on Human Rights Grounds (FLR HRO) is one of the most technical applications a UK immigration lawyer handles. The decision rests on Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, the Immigration Rules and the Home Office’s interpretation of “exceptional circumstances”. Getting it right matters. A refusal can leave you without status and at risk of removal.
We are an immigration law firm based in Glasgow with a second office in Edinburgh. Our FLR (HRO) package is a fixed-fee service for clients across the UK who need legal representation, not just a document check.
What is an FLR (HRO) Application?
FLR (HRO) is the Home Office form used when you are applying to extend your leave to remain in the UK on human rights grounds, usually Article 8, the right to private and family life. It is used where no standard visa route is available and your current leave is running out, or has already expired.
Common situations where a UK immigration lawyer will recommend an FLR (HRO) route include:
- Long residence cases where the standard ten-year rule does not yet apply.
- Family life applications outside the Immigration Rules, where the rules cannot be met but family circumstances are strong.
- Private life applications based on length of residence in the UK.
- Cases involving British or settled children where removal would be unduly harsh.
- Medical or care-based cases relying on Article 3 or Article 8.
Who Should Apply on Human Rights Grounds?
You may need an FLR (HRO) application if:
- Your visa is expiring and you have no route to extend under the standard categories.
- You have been refused under another route and your circumstances cross into human rights territory.
- You have a strong family life in the UK that would be disrupted by removal.
- You have lived in the UK for a long period and have built a private life that cannot reasonably be reproduced elsewhere.
If you are not sure whether this is the right route, that is exactly the kind of question a Glasgow immigration lawyer should answer at the outset, before you spend money on a fee that does not match your circumstances.
What This FLR (HRO) Package Includes
The £1,440 fixed fee is per person and covers the legal work listed in the package. That means:
- An initial case assessment to confirm FLR (HRO) is the right route.
- A written legal strategy with the grounds we intend to argue.
- A complete document checklist tailored to your case.
- Drafting and submission of the FLR (HRO) application form online.
- A bespoke legal representations letter setting out the Article 8 arguments, supporting case law and the public interest balancing exercise.
- Submission of all supporting evidence to the Home Office.
- Booking your biometric appointment at a UKVCAS service point.
- Communication with the Home Office on your behalf until a decision is made.
The Home Office application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge are paid by you directly to UKVI. If those costs would cause hardship, see the Fee Waiver package, which can be combined with this one.
Why Article 8 Cases Need a UK Immigration Lawyer
Human rights applications are not box-ticking exercises. The Home Office will refuse anything that reads like a generic form filled out without legal grounds. A strong FLR (HRO) submission needs a clear legal framework setting out which limb of Article 8 you rely on, properly evidenced facts rather than assertions, authority cited from the Immigration Rules, Home Office guidance and the case law, and a reasoned proportionality assessment that weighs your private and family life against the public interest in immigration control.
That is the work we do. As a Glasgow immigration lawyer firm with hundreds of five-star reviews, we have been running Article 8 cases for clients across Scotland and the rest of the UK for years.
The Process: How Your FLR (HRO) Application Will Run
- Book the package online or via consultation. We confirm receipt within 24 hours.
- We send you a tailored document list. You upload scans to a secure portal.
- We draft your application and a full legal representations letter.
- You review the draft. We make changes until you are happy.
- We submit the application to UKVI and book your biometrics.
- We chase the Home Office and respond to any requests for further information.
- You receive the decision. If it is granted, we send you a final pack. If it is refused, we set out your options, including appeal and judicial review.
Common Reasons FLR (HRO) Applications Fail
Most refused FLR (HRO) cases share the same problems. Vague representations. Missing evidence on cohabitation. No proper Article 8 analysis. Reliance on country information without sourcing. A weak section on the welfare of any children. We build the case to avoid each of these failure modes.
